"Plan C" has been executed

February 6

Well, "Plan A" has not worked out; "Plan B" is now in the rear view mirror as well; today we executed "Plan C".

Yes, we are disappointed and discouraged with how our adventure has made it twists and turns. You have all been very gracious and helpful with your prayers and verses. We do thank you for the support that you offer in the place that it really matters....before God's throne.

Early on, the newness of Ukraine and the excitement of each day pulled us on easily. But, Ukraine is now familiar and, to those who do not speak/read the language, it is virtually inaccessible. Each day is the same. We can only talk about the same topics and ask the same questions. I understand why people want to come home after a few weeks. None of this is a reflection on the culture, the people, the organizations that we work with, or even the government. It is simply that we cannot grasp the lowest rung on the ladder of cultural participation.

I was awake at 5 am and finally could not stay in bed any longer by 6 am. Got up and started preparing for "Plan C". The girls got up, cleaned up, ate some breakfast and left at 8 am. Gone. The silence is deafening. (Not sure how to make the 'teary eye' face with the keyboard; suffice it to say that my eyes are watery even now.....2 hours later.) I have to do other things and avoid thinking directly about them (except to pray).

With God's blessing, they should be in Frankfurt and meeting Brian by late afternoon here. They will spend the next week touring Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and maybe other places with Brian and the family there. Brian, thanks for your willingness to make this happen for our girls.

By the way, we did have the preliminary court yesterday. But, that is not much of a milestone. The judge cannot grant the adoption until the Interpol formality has been worked out. There MAY be some movement on this, but, I hesitate to mention it because we have had movement before, only to be disappointed later.

  1. Father, I ask that You keep the Alderink girls safe on their journey withouth Mike & Thank You for Brian being willing to be their tour guide, and show them this beautiful part of the world. I lift to You Doris & Mike...in the quiet apartment, and in the mediocrity of sameness. May they find their own adventure in Your Word, and continue to rely on You. Move the hearts of the Ukrainian paper-pusehers, and allow the Alderinks to get their court date, get the necessary paperwork, and get on home with their boys. You who move king's heart, may You move the hearts of those in authority in this situation. Lord, we ask, not because we know best, but because You told us to be anxious for nothing; and to pray without ceasing. So I lift my friends up to You today.
Occupy their minds & hearts with your presence, as they wait. Amen.

  2. Sorry, I had Doris' name typed in that first line. I prayed this as I typed, eyes closed, then went back for typos...and didn't realize I deleted her name when I capitalized "Thank You"...so Doris, you WERE prayed for. :) Hang in there.

  4. How difficult it must be to let the girls go to Germany without you, a blessing that they are with someone you trust! Sorrow as you both are left behind, joy that you had the prelimanary cout yesterday and maybe some hope of things going faster in court!
Your faithfullness is evident in the blogs we read even though we know none of this has been easy! We love you all very much and our hearts break with yours at the struggles and we laugh with the girls as we see things from their perspective. We are praying without ceasing that God's way in this will bring forth much joy in the end!

  5. Your poignant post reminded us of the reality of the situation with you. Thank you for sharing from your heart!! We saw your mother today, and she was also visibly shaken. She is well, nevertheless!! Liz and Dennis

  6. News from Germany. The girls' flight went great and they arrived safely in Frankfurt. We had a good 2 hour drive to Stuttgart where we live. They say they are glad to be back to where things are "organized" and work well. Welcome to the German mindset....

I am sure they will update this blog later today after we go to church. They are quite excited about what all we will be doing this week. Tonight we have a Super Bowl party and will watch the Colts win! Go Colts!
